Your first session at New Light Health is all about building a connection with your psychologist and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will discuss your current challenges, relevant history, and goals for our time together. Our psychologists work collaboratively with you through these questions, so you don't need to worry about having everything figured out before you walk through the door
Our fees are based on several factors, including appointment hours and qualifications of the treating psychologist. Please note that the costs of assessment will differ from the fees below and can be discussed by calling our friendly team. Yes, if you have a Valid referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP, you may claim a Medicare rebate. This allows you to access up to 10 counselling sessions with a rebate per calendar year, though any 'leftover' sessions may be used in the following year. Psychologist rebates in 2026 are $101.55 for a Registered psychologist, and $149.05 for a Clinical Psychologist. You can also claim through your private health insurance if your extras policy covers psychology (though please note you cannot claim both Medicare and private health for the same session).
Yes - but we promise it's not a lot! Our psychologists want to capture you at your best, and though there is no way to "pass" or "fail" a psychological assessment, it would help a lot if you came to the session well-rested and fed, so you can participate comfortably.
After your first session, our psychologists might ask you to bring along any previous reports you may have (such as school reports and documents from allied health or specialists) to help with your assessment.
Our assessment fees vary depending on the type and complexity of the evaluation (e.g., cognitive, educational, or neurodevelopmental). Comprehensive assessment packages generally range between $1,900 and $3,400. These fees covers the initial consultation, standardized testing sessions, questionnaires a comprehensive report, and a dedicated feedback session to discuss the outcomes and recommendations. Yes - individuals aged under 25 are eligible for up to 4 rebates of $98.95 during the assessment of a complex neurodevelopmental disorder (such as Autism) if they have a valid specialist referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist. Following the assessment, your psychologist will write back to the referring doctor to inform them of the outcome of your assessment. Please note that a GP may not write this referral.
Yes - New Light Health welcome and support NDIS participants to our services. We provide intervention support as well as reports relating to functional capacity for individuals who are Self-Managed or Plan-Managed.
Our psychologists value your time and require time to prepare for your sessions with planning, professional development, and time for case noting or report writing. We kindly ask that you review our cancellation policy so we can seamlessly offer any unexpected openings to other clients who may need them.
